All my life I have been a Florida resident. Having been born and raised in Miami, my life is a reflection of the fast past lifestyle adopted from my city. Miami, Florida is known for its numerous fancy restaurants, high-end party life, great weather and many different cultural attractions throughout the city. I have lived here in Miami, Florida for twenty-three years now, and yet to explore every part of it yet. Miami is a city filled with many influencers and lots of inspiration to go around.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions last year of being out in public places, there was not much to do but stay inside the house all day. The worst of it all, my school basketball season was cancelled right before our first game. The internet was the closest thing you can get to having some sort of live fun, thanks to social media. Even our school classes got moved to online only which had us stuck in zoom meetings everyday. The ability to connect and socialize with people was no longer available. Not only was Covid-19 an issue, but protesting and riots were an even more concern due to the spread of violence throughout the nation. City wide curfews were mandated. Also many commercial and retail stores were closed. The new year was something everyone was most definitely looking forward to.
Coming into this school year having all of that commotion and indifferences settling down, it felt great to be back. Not only was I back in school, but my basketball season was in full go as well. The anticipation of this year was exciting. Having everything go back to normal was a huge relief. So the moment my teacher assigned this project, I knew it was going to be something special to do.
With no hesitation, I immediately raised my hand to be assigned to Wynwood, Miami. I knew I could do no wrong with this amazing place. Every inch of this small city of its own in Miami is covered in art. I also did not want to take on the task of using Google Street View either. During my explorations of Wynwood, I actually came across a handful of spots that I have never even seen before. There was lots of street art decorating the walls of many different blocks and corners. You can feel and see that each design had its own unique touch and style created by its artist. Choosing Wynwood was by far the best decision for this project. Credit to each and every artist’s work that is featured here in this Wander Type.
To those of you who are blessed enough to witness these wonderful creations through this booklet, Wynwood, Miami, it is definitely something to check off your bucket list!
About the Author: Michael Moore Jr.
Hi my name is Michael Moore Jr. I am a 23 year old college student-athlete on the Men’s Basketball team at Nova Southeastern University. I currently major in Art & Design with a concentration in Graphic Design. Basketball is my first love, but designing brings the creativity out of me. So much so that it led me to start my very own clothing and hat company called MoorésCollections. Fashion and designing has always been an important and unique hobby of mine. I’m thankful to be able to study and learn more about it in school.
