This book entails the project I completed for my undergraduate typography class, to recognize underrepresented typography around the world. I chose to try and represent Rothenburg, Germany and share with everyone the beauty I was able to see in person a few years ago, as well as show the typography that exists here. I wanted everyone else to see and imagine this picturesque town that’s not very well known to the outside world even though it’s almost 800 years old. The history in this town is unimaginable and still looks similar to as it did 800 years ago with cobblestone roads, a wall surrounding the entire town, and beautiful wood carving and timbered houses. I was able to capture my signage specimens by wandering around the streets of Rothenburg on Google maps. I collected these specimens and represented them in my book and each with a story of its own. I had many thoughts during this research project but just learning the history and location taught me so much and answered my own questions. This book shows my findings of the different signage that may not be seen anywhere else in the world. Even though it’s not a lot, it can just give a brief introduction into another part of the world and how it varies from our own through the different typography found.
About the Author: Alexandra Achenbach
I am currently a sophomore at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida pursuing my Marketing Degree and my minor in graphic design and business. I have always enjoyed art but wasn’t ready to pursue it in school, but my family urged me to continue so I chose to minor in graphic design. Since then I have had many different opportunities and classes I have been able to take and experience the many different art forms. Apart from art I also enjoy sports especially volleyball, the environment or just being outside in nature or at the beach. I hope to find a career where I can bring my interests in business, art, and the environment together.
